Half of my income was from unemployment due to covid the other half was through working. The taxes owed for both states are as much as my federal return so now I get nothing back?

Not knowing what you had withheld, you could owe. Let me assume two different ways:

Full year resident of one state while working as a nonresident. You would prepare the nonresident first and then prepare the resident and get a credit for tax paid to nonresident state.

Part year resident of two states. File a part year return with each state claiming only the income that belongs to that state during residency.

You should not be paying full amount to both states without a credit or adjustment.
