Pretax medical insurance premiums are not deductible. From the Iowa instructions ; Deduct insurance premiums that you paid to cover medical care, including hospitalization, surgical fees, x-rays, inpatient care, dental care, prescription medicines, hearing, eye care, etc. But, if your employer withholds an amount from your paycheck that you don't pay tax on, you cannot take a deduction for it.

Misspoke. The medical insurance is not pre-tax. It is deducted after tax. For Federal do not have enough

to itemize. How to enter the medical insurance for Iowa. Only asks for market place or state market place.

It is deductible for state of iowa. Suggestions?

When you go through the Iowa state return, you will come to a screen that says ''Tell us about your health insurance premiums'' and you can enter your post-tax premiums paid there.

Enter 100% of the amount paid for health and dental insurance premiums. Include all supplemental health insurance (Medicare B, Medicare D, and long-term nursing home coverage). No deduction is allowed for premiums paid on a pretax basis.
