I am using TurboTax Deluxe Desktop. I have completed two returns. One is for myself, who lives in PA, and I have the PA State software downloaded. The second return is for my 91 year old father, who lives in NY. I have the NY State software also downloaded for his return. My father's return is complete, and I want to file it now. However, at the last step of the e-filing procedure, TurboTax says I cannot file it, because I have the PA software downloaded, and I need to file that first, because they cannot determine his tax status. It is my return, not my father's, that needs the PA state software. I can't file my federal or PA state return until Feb, because I'm waiting on a form from Fidelity. Is there anyway to E-file my father's federal and NY state return now?

No, as the IRS is only beginning to accept and begin processing of returns on February 12th. I honestly do not know why you are getting that type of error message if you are in a completely different account (meaning, that you set up a totally separate account for your father). One should have no bearing on the other. Make sure they are not somehow attached and that you did, in fact, set up a separate account with different username and PW for him.
