I work part time in Michigan during the summer months but we are Florida residents. When I filed last year with Turbo Tax Deluxe I was told I had to purchase a State Tax for an additional $25.00. How do I avoid paying this additional money?

Since FL has no state income tax you do not have to prepare a FL return---only a MI return

When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return. You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return. The state e-file fee is $19.99 and increases in March.

You will have to file a Michigan tax return with Schedule NR, Nonresident and part year resident schedule. If you don't wish to file electronically with Turbotax you can file a paper or return. See the Michigan Department of Treasury web site. https://www.michigan.gov/taxes/0,4676,7-238-44143-515315--,00.html
