I file for me and our son. Can I use Deluxe to calculate both CA returns?

If you buy the Desktop Deluxe program it can do unlimited returns and you get a free state program to prepare unlimited state returns in that state.

The Online web version is only good for 1 return per account. But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts. How to start another return in the Online version

Thats why if you need to do more than 1 return we recommend you buy the Desktop CD/Download program. It can do unlimited returns and efile 5 for free. And you can buy a lower version. All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions. Buy the Desktop program in stores or directly from Turbo Tax here

The TurboTax online editions are only for completing one tax return per account and User ID. The state tax return is an additional fee if you will not be using the Free online edition - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

You would need to create another separate account for the second tax return with a new User ID.

The Deluxe desktop edition or higher includes one free state tax program included in the purchase price.

Assuming you are asking about the Desktop installed program.........

If you buy Deluxe directly from Turbo Tax it comes with a free state PROGRAM download. If you buy Deluxe in the stores or online it comes 2 ways, Deluxe with a state program and Deluxe without state. So pay attention and buy Deluxe with state.

Then you can prepare unlimited federal and unlimited state returns. You can print and mail the state for free or each state (including the first one) is 19.99 to efile (goes up to 24.99 in March).

Also On the Windows Desktop program you have to manually save. It doesn't automatically save although it should ask if you want to save when you start a new return or exit the program.

Also if your Child's name (or another return) is the same or similar to yours then it might overwrite your return. You have to save each return with different names so you can tell them apart. Like if your name is John and your son is also named John or even just the same initial, it will save them with the same name so the second one will overwrite the first return. Go to File-SaveAs and give it a unique name.
