NYS gets a copy of my W2 and 1099R's when my taxes are filed, is it common for NYS to send a letter requesting me to send them a copy ?

thanks Ken

If you e-file then NY only gets what *you* entered on your tax return, not the actual W-2 or 1099. Either the state or the IRS (or both) can always ask you to mail a copy the the actual W-2's or 1099's which is why W-2' say on the back that you are required o keep it for at least 3 years. Sometimes they ask just for a random check.

Yes, based on the frequent posts, we see in this forum, on this subject, it is common for a state tax dept. to request copies of your W-2 and/or 1099-R showing withholding. It's even more common in situations with withholding for more than one state.
