I'm getting a message about the Indiana return that it can't be filed electronically. "At least two of the four withholding and wage amounts (Federal tax WH, State Wages, State Income Tax WH and Local Income Tax WH) on W-2 statement have the same dollar amounts. The only two numbers on the three w-2's I have are the State & Local Wages. Anybody else had this problem?

Double check the W-2's you have carefully to make sure the details are entered in the proper boxes. This warning is saying that the input does not appear to be correct--for example, the entire wages are accidentally entered as local withholding, or something like that.

Thanks for the reply - I doubled and triple checked the W-2's. No amounts were the same, However on one W-2, I had Federal WH of 33.14 and State WH of 33.11. Although close, the numbers are different. Rounding was the issue - both rounding to 33. I did a test and changed the 33.11 to 32.11 and it went through with no Indiana error. My dilemma is to file paper copies or change one of the amounts and risk a rejection on the e-filing. Any suggestions

Thank You

You might try changing the state WH amount but make sure it is lower than that the $33.11 amount. If this triggers a rejection, the only thing you can do is efile the federal and paper-file the Indiana return. Meanwhile, give it a shot reporting the Indiana amount at $32.11. This should not significantly impact your return.

You may want to try deleting the input and then entering the 1099-R forms again. This may resolve whatever issues are going on and allow you file.

The input would be under the Federal income section as follows:

Select Income & Expenses

Scroll down to All Income

Select show more to the right of Retirement Plans & Social Security

Select start/revisit to the right of IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)

As you enter your 1099-R information, be sure to file out the state section. The program will then answer any questions as it relates to that particular 1099-R.

To enter additional 1099-R forms, simply select +Add Another 1099-R

To delete, simply select the Delete option to the right of each 1099-R form. You can either delete all and re-enter or trying deleting one at a time and re-entering it.

If you have only a single W-2 and you are having trouble e-filing, please check the input of your W-2. If Box 16 (State Wages) is greater than Box 1 (Wages), then it you will not be able to e-file your return.

To check your W-2 input, please follow these steps:

Open your tax return.

Select the Jump to W-2 link at the top of the search results.

Click on Edit next to your W-2.

Verify amounts entered.

If your W-2 is correct and Box 16 is not greater than Box 1, then please check the Indiana Individual Forms Availability to ensure that none of the forms on your return are unsupported for e-file.

If you are importing your W2's then I would suggest deleting them and typing them in manually. Some companies when preparing their W2s for export to TurboTax fill all of the blanks with zeroes which is obviously not wrong but the system reads that as information to enter on a tax return and that can gum up the works.

As DaveF1006 stated, you can offset your state withholdings by a $1 difference. This will allow the software to see the amounts are not the same and will allow for the e-file. It will not affect your return.
