topic CA State Tax Unexpected Refund in State tax filing

I recently filed my State taxes with Turbotax Self-Employed and was told I owed CA state taxes. I paid the amount owed and the return was indicated as "accepted" by the State. However, a couple weeks later I received a check from the State of CA for State Income Tax Refund. How is this possible? Is it possible to overpay your state income taxes with Turbotax?

The most probable cause would be that you omitted to enter the state estimated taxes that you paid and the state spotted the omission when matching your return to your tax account.

Thanks! Is there anything I need to fix online on TurboTax before I deposit the check? I also found it weird that a physical check was mailed to me instead of a direct deposit since I've always opted for that option and all my direct deposit info is on file.
