A reciprocal tax agreement will not necessarily prevent you from owing tax in the state you live in, as all of your income will be taxed in that state.

It should, however, generally prevent you from having to file in the state you work in.

The issue I am dealing with is I live in Ohio, I filed a Michigan state tax return. I was under the impression that being from a reciprocal state I had have to pay state taxes. So when filing for Ohio I know most likely I will owe money, but filing for Michigan being a nonresident, doesn’t that mean I receive the tax state that was taken from me.

ohio and michigan have reciprocity. you only pay taxes in Oh for income eaned in Mi

you need to give your Mi employer form MI-2w so no MI w/h only Oh

your MI return should have reflect OH residence so you would get back all yor w/h.
