topic Illinois State Income Tax in State tax filing

I was filling in information for my Illinois State Income Returns and I got to the part where it asks about "Wage income from outside Illinois". I inputted the correct "other state amount" but I noticed that the "Total Amount" figure was not the same as the amount I made in Illinois (it was higher than the figure in Box #1 of my W2. As a result, on the State Review Page, it claimed I owed money to the state and it was the same amount as 4.95% (Illinois's state income tax rate) of the "Total Amount" figure. I shouldn't owe any money to the state since I already paid the state income tax when it was withheld from my paycheck. This "Total Amount" number claims I made more than what my W2 shows. How can I change this "Total Amount" figure or did I do something wrong?

You will need to go back through the interview process and remove this amount that was entered.

As long as you entered the amount earned inside of Illinois, you do not need to enter any other income amounts as the program will adjust it based upon your input.

Go back into your state return by clicking State on the black panel on the left.

Select state and select Go over Illinois again.

This will allow you to review all of your answers in the state return and remove the adjustment to correct your state tax return.

The online form will not let me make an adjustment. I checked everything I did and none of it was incorrect. The amount the online form is claiming I made is more than I actually made in 2019. I'm getting taxed for income I never earned.

I have two other options.

1) Go back into the federal interview section.

Under Income & Expenses, select W-2 Wages and review your input here. Pay particular attention to boxes 15-17 to ensure those amounts match your W-2 form.

Scroll down to the bottom once you have gone through the wage screens and select Wrap up income.

Then try going back into your state return and see if that resolves the issue.

2) If the above does not work, your other option is to delete the state return and then add it back and go through the interview section again. This may resolve the issue as well.
