If I became a Florida resident on 4/12/2019 but maintained a home in NJ, is it sufficient to just file a

NJ resident return for the period 1/1/19 to 4/12/19 or do I also have to file a non-resident return

for 4/13 thru 12/31/19?

Probably you will need both forms, particularly if you continued to receive income from New Jersey sources.

Please see 2019 New Jersey Form NJ-1040 Instructions page 3 to determine your status. For part-year residents, it states:

There is no part-year resident return. You may have to file both Form NJ-1040 to report income you received for the part of the year you were a resident and Form NJ-1040NR if you had income from New Jersey sources for the part of the year you were a nonresident.

2019 New Jersey Form NJ-1040NR Instructions

Actually all of my income is passive from dividends and interest so I’m wondering if I should just file a resident return in NJ for the period it was my domicile.

since it’s not NJ income I wouldn’t need a non resident return.
