Form 40 is a form that is generated in state tax return. If you use Turbo Tax Online, it is a form generated in your return because it is your main form for reporting your Idaho state income tax return.

Now the question is why are you asking? You prepare your state return by selecting state in the left navigational pane in your screen, Once you select this, relevant tax data that was generated in your federal return gets populated into your state return. it is just as simple as that.

Are you asking the question because turbo Tax is asking you to address a specific issue in Form 40 because if it s, you won't be able to address in the form itself but need to address it in the program. Also if you haven't started your state return, do it now by selecting state in your left navigational screen.

Let us know what specific issue you have and we can help you correct it.

I can't see your tax return but I can make some good guesses.

You received more income

paid less in taxes.

You made a typo

You lost a credit you received last year

Pull out last year's return and compare it to this year. Look at the income, look at the tax withheld, look at the credits, just look. You will see some differences coming up. Unfortunately, a lot of people received unemployment and did not have tax withheld. That hurt. It could be payroll at work just did not take enough. If work did not withhold enough, you can change your W4 at work to have them withhold a different amount of tax.

You can change your W4 at work as often as you like.

You can also use the IRS W4 planner anytime throughout the year to plan your federal refund.Choose a larger or smaller refund vs money in your pocket throughout the year

When you have salary changes, you can keep up with your correct tax bracket at TurboTax Bracket Calculator.
