Careful here......You cannot have any of your Federal Refund re-directed to pay state taxes you owe.

Look at your MD tax forms printout......The balance due you see on your actual MD tax forms is what you must pay MD directly yourself.

Now, if MD actually recalculated the tax for some other reason, like for some MD tax withholding you didn't actually pay, or for some other income you didn't properly declare, then you'll have to closely review your forms vs what MD claims they changed to see if they were correct that you missed something, or mis-entered something on your MD submission, and then respond according to whatever procedure MD indicated in the letter....or call MD and ask for more details.

But again....if you were expecting some of a Federal refund to go to pay MD taxes due...that cannot be done. All Federal and State refunds.....or taxes due...must be dealt with entirely separate from each other.
