1. On the "South Carolina Residency Information" screen, did you select "Nonresident OR part-year resident filing as a nonresident"? 2. On the "South Carolina Part-Year and Nonresidents" screen, if all income was earned in Washington, did you enter '0' under "South Carolina" for each source of income in order to allocate income to the appropriate state?

SC taxes your income earned from any source while you are a SC resident. So, even though your income was not earned in SC, if you had income while you were a SC resident then you may owe SC income tax.

Since you were a part-year resident of SC, you can choose to file as either a resident or a non-resident. Choosing non-resident may give you a better result on your return.
