I was just getting started setting-up my turbo-tax profile. The suggested deductions did not include sales tax. Why not? I live in Texas. I just did not want to have any added hassle at the end.

Sales taxes paid during the year are an eligible itemized deduction reported on Schedule A. Your total itemized deductions reported on Form 1040 Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit.

To enter your sales taxes

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Sales Taxes, click the start or update button

Or enter sales tax in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to sales tax

I've always thought that this was in a hard to find place...
