I lived and worked in New Jersey in the past years until June 2018. In July 2018, I started working in California for another employer and living in a rented apartment in CA. My wife and my son still live in a house ( we own) in NJ and we will sell our house to move to CA this summer. My wife works in NJ always and she has never worked in CA. we have W-2s only, from three different employers. Your detailed advice would be much appreciated in advance.

one option is follows. not sure if it is correct:

1. A jointly-filed full year return for NJ covering income earned in NJ and CA.
2. A nonresident CA return for myself, covering the income I earned in CA (July through December).

Another option is:

1. A full year return for NJ for my wife

2. A resident return for myself for NJ (Jan to June)

3. A resident return for myself for CA (July to Dec)

are both correct? Thanks a lot!
