I tried to efile my taxes and TT wouldn't let me file the state (California). When you get to the point of efiling it wants me to pay $25 for the state and of course $45 for Audit Defense. I hit the button to Continue and it pops up "Hmm... it looks like we've hit a slight snag. Please try again or check back in a bit". I've been retrying all day. I finally went in and just told it to efile Federal, which was processed. But I cannot get it to file California. It just hangs up. It doesn't even let me enter information about a credit card or anything, but I went online to verify I had a working credit card on file.

If you are still having an issue editing or reviewing the state tax worksheet, try deleting the state and starting over. It shouldn't take long to get all the information back for the state because most of the data feeds from the federal screen. This usually resolves looping errors.

Troubleshooting State Issues

How to delete state tax return

Hi - thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I already tried that and it still is doing the same thing.

To efile state after federal you need to wait for the federal to be accepted.

For the Desktop program you have to check the filing status inside the program so it knows it was Accepted. Open your return and go up to menu item

File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status

Then save your return and close it. Close the program and reopen it.

How to file state after federal

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/e-file/help/how-do-i-e-file-my-state-after-i-already-filed-my-federal/00/26811

In my case it turned out to be a license key issue. I contacted the reseller (matchwardrobe.com) via their online chat, and in less than 2 minutes they gave me a new license key that worked. I was able to get to the enter credit card info screen to pay for my state e-efile, and then complete e-file for both Federal and State.
