      <description>&lt;P&gt;&lt;B&gt;It depends.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/B&gt;State income taxes are deductible on your Federal Return on Schedule A, which is where you claim&amp;nbsp;&lt;I&gt;itemized deductions.&lt;/I&gt;&amp;nbsp; You will need to have more itemized deductions (which include mortgage interest, medical deductions, real estate taxes, and charitable deductions, along with a few other items) than your standard deduction to see a benefit.&amp;nbsp; If you are filing as single, the standard deduction is $12,000, if Head of Household, it is $18,000, and if Married Filing Joint, $24,000.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
