1099-B Editing

I've entered a 1099-B. I have a typo in the name of the stock (the sales was done by the stock company itself). How do I edit that?

Note, l am not looking for how to enter a brand new 1099-B. I have already entered it. Nor am l looking to edit the sales information. I want to change the name of the 1099-B that l have already entered.

Description is usually the name of the security you sold.

Follow these steps:

Go back to the investment section,
select stocks, bonds, other to edit/revisit/update
locate the 1099-B and select (from dropdown if needed) edit/review/update

This does not do what is needed. Again, it is the DESCRIPTION of the 1099-B I am trying to edit not the description of individual sale within the 1099-B. If I select the 1099-B and press edit, there is NO option to change the DESCRIPTION of the 1099-B.

You want to change the description of the IRS form 1099-B as displayed here.

If the IRS form 1099-B is imported from your financial institution, this description appears to be attached to the imported information.

If the IRS form 1099-B is entered by hand, the description is found in the entry box Bank or brokerage at the entry screen Which bank or brokerage is on your 1099-B.

I already have an entry. Using your example, how do you change the name "Korea" to "USA?"

To change the name, I would have to delete the 1099-B entry and re-enter the 1099-B entry manually.

The name comes from the entry for Bank or brokerage at the screen Which bank or brokerage is on your 1099-B?

I know the correct name. From what you are telling me, I need to delete the entire 1099-B entry and retype it in again. Who decided that was a good idea?????

It depends. You do have the inability to change the 'Description' when you choose to edit your sale/1099-B, Please review the instructions and see the images below before, during and after the change. The main name doesn't change but the actual sale does.

You can go to the investments and edit the one you need to. Use the instructions below to reach the investment page, then scroll to the one you want to edit. For TurboTax Online:

In the left panel Select Tax Tools > Tools > Topic Search > type 1099-B and Enter
You will land on the investment list page

For TurboTax Desktop: Search (upper right) > type 1099b > Click the Jump to... link > Land on the investment list page

if you're on desktop then go into Forms mode (View > Forms) and find the 1099-B worksheet and you can edit the name there. this is another annoyance with the redesign of the 1099s.
