Work in New York but live in New Jersey. Using Turbo Tax Premier and have done the Federal and New Jersey via the tax software. However, I prepare New York taxes manually as I haven't found a solution to seamlessly to incorporate to the Turbo Tax software.

In MY INFO you are asked to enter the address where you LIVE. On another screen in MY INFO you are asked if you made money in any other state---you should have said yes and then entered that you made money in the state of NY. You need to prepare two state tax returns----and the NON-resident return for NY should be prepared first, then the NJ return for the state that you live in.

My basic question is there a Turbo Tax version, or can I add/purchase another state to complement my current Premier edition which allows me federal and a single state. Called TB customer service and was bounced around. Latest was transferred to a supervisor and after some 15 minutes for him to research I finally hung up. Simply frustrating. Presently, I prepare NYS taxes manually and looking for a solution that will seamlessly automate the process of data flowing from Federal-NYS-NJ.

There is no way to "seamlessly" incorporate a state. TurboTax is tax preparation software so it it meant to work by the interview questions interface.

Thanks, I guess I'll continue doing NYS manually. What confuses me is that when there's a TB update, it not only updates, Federal, State of NJ, but also NYS.
