States are getting picky about the fact that purchases are being made online and out-of state to avoid paying state sales tax. If the state has sales tax, they want to apply the tax to these types of purchases.

You will need to look at your receipt from Amazon and see if they added NJ sales tax.

Amazon has been moving towards collecting sales tax on most states; however, your receipt is the only proof that they did on your particular sale.
