When a Taxpayer passes in the year, they are considered as living the entire year for credits, including the Earned Income Credit.

Although your mother passed in March 2023, it is considered as if she lived in the US all year for 2023.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm filing 2023 taxes for my deceased mother. She died in March and therefore had little income, so TurboTax is saying she is entitled to an Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC). Looking at the form view, there is a "Qualification Questionnaire" that, among other things, asks if the taxpayer's main home was in the United States for more than half of the year. TurboTax has selected "yes" even though, with a March passing, she did not live in the US for more than a half year. I tried to overwrite the selection with a "no" but TurboTax doesn't allow it. Please help.
