topic Filing in Multiple States in State tax filing

In 2023 I worked for a company that is located in the state of CA. I lived in that state for 8 months but then moved to NY to work remotely for the same company. I received two W2s. For CA, it looks like my state wages are for the 8 months I worked in CA. The form with NY listed shows wages for NY as the full amount of my federal wages. I know I need to file in both CA and NY, I am just not sure how and for what amounts I should report in each state given the company is a CA company. Any advice/guidance would be appreciated.

You will enter your W-2 forms as they are stated in TurboTax. You will file as a part-year resident in both states. In California, you will be taxed on the income you earned there. In New York, your tax will be calculated based on your total income in both states, and then it will be reduced by a percentage equal to your California income in relation to your total income.
