Are you intending to create a full-year Massachusetts state tax return and one or more nonresident state tax returns?

The question that you are reading sounds like you have created a part-year Massachusetts rather than a full-year Massachusetts state tax return.

Click State Taxes and Your State Returns down the left side of the screen. Review the Massachusetts tax return to see whether you have created a part-year or full-year state tax return.

In TurboTax Online, you report that you lived in one or more states under My Info down the left side of the screen. Then click Edit to the right of your name.

Review the entries there to make sure that they are entered correctly.

State entries are included on W-2's and 1099-R and, perhaps, other documents. Review these documents to see whether the correct state has been entered in the tax return.

To delete a state tax return or to delete and start over, click the trashcan to the right of the state on the page Status of you state returns.

Well, the thing is that I was a part year resident in MA and part year in NH. So it is correct since I didn't live in MA the entire year.

Currently, both states say part-year resident.

You said that you have lived in MA since you were born.

What is your connection to NH? Did you literally move to NH, or were you just in NH temporarily (for example, to attend school)?

I moved to NH from MA fully on 9/5/2023. I’m still working in MA full time.

For tax year 2023 you are a part-year resident of both states.

The income you earned in MA after you became a NH resident is still taxable by MA. MA can tax non-resident on income earned from work performed within MA.

When you complete your part-year MA return, be sure to allocate your full-year's work income to MA. I think that should solve the issue, although I don't have the MA state module on my computer so I can't test it out.

I don't think this is the problem. Let me copy and paste to show you.

Form 1-NR/PY: Non-MA source income -- needs to be equal to Schedule R/NR, Part 1 total, column C minus column D since you are filing Schedule R/NR. Enter the result of 16366. minus 16153..

This is what it is asking for the first problem. I did NOT make any money outside of MA, so I keep putting 0 and it keeps looping me back to it.

EDIT: I fixed this part! It said to enter the number. And I did. lol.

Information Worksheet: PY from Date must be a valid date in the tax year (2023).

This is the second problem. I keep putting PY from Date as my birthday because I've lived in MA since I was born, on 12/02/1994. The part where it says I LEFT MA is 09/04/2023, which is accurate. But again, it keeps looping me back.

Schedule R/NR

Schedule R/NR, Massachusetts Resident/Nonresident Worksheet
Schedule R/NR should be completed only by taxpayers who were part-year residents of Massachusetts and received Massachusetts source income while a nonresident. If you were a part-year resident of Massachusetts but did not receive Massachusetts source income while you were a nonresident, uncheck the Form 1-NR/PY: Nonresident and Part-Year Resident Return (Sch R/NR) box and check the Form 1-NR/PY: Part-year Resident Return box on the Massachusetts Information Worksheet.

It keeps saying this after the Information Worksheet. Then it keeps looping back to:

In the My Info section of TT, did you enter NH as your "State of Residence", and indicate that you also lived in MA? The date you enter there should be the date you began living in NH. Also, your MA residence period should start with 01/01/2023. We are answering only in terms of tax year 2023.
