I feel like a complete idiot right now. I accidentally signed and finalized my federal return without fully completing the state portion of filing. If it's accepted will I be able to receive the federal portion of the refund and then amend for the state portion of the refund? Or will it be rejected without any state information? Also if it's rejected will I be able to just add the state information and re-file?

Yes, you will be able to add your state return after the return has been either accepted or rejected. On the Tax Home page, scroll down to the bottom (your Returns and Documents section) and click on Add State. You won't be amending your federal, just adding a state - - so don't click on anything that says ''amend'' - just do Add a State. It happens all the time; don't sweat it 🙂

Your federal return and state return go to 2 separate places for processing. Your federal is sent, and you can always go back and add state returns to a completed federal return.

Has the federal return been accepted yet? What is the e-file status? Do you see this option?

I'm sorry, I am such an airhead. The process will not go past 21% because there is an individual income form that is not available until 1/31. Federal has been accepted and I'm just waiting until 1/31 to proceed with finalizing state.
