topic CA Health Coverage for Dependent in State tax filing

Hi, have a question about health coverage - if you claim an adult dependent (qualifying relative) on the California tax return, are you required to provide them with health coverage? They do not live in the same household and insurance is employer sponsored. Thanks.

If you claim an adult dependent on your return, you don't have to provide them with health insurance. They may have their own health insurance.

A parent, for example, may be on Medicare or a retirement insurance plan.

If this applies, just indicate that everyone on your California return had health coverage all year.
