There are a lot of state forms that are not yet ready and you just have to wait for them. You cannot e-file a state return until the IRS accepts your federal return. The IRS will not begin to accept federal returns until January 24, so you have time.

So Turbotax is saying my Missouri Individual Form MO 1040 Missouri Resident (Long Form) ready soon. Same with Missouri Individual Form MO A Individual Tax Adjustments also states ready soon. I don't believe my federal tax return has been sent because I always put in some code and pay some money filing my federal return with Turbotax. Can I file federal now and just file a state return later?

Yes. Missouri is a stand alone state so it can be filed independent of the federal. Once the federal is accepted, you can file Missouri, if you are not filing them together. Several states do not have the main tax forms ready. The state and federal governments approve the most common forms first and work their way down the list. Please see the links for form availability. Once a date shows up, the reality should be close. Once released, Turbo Tax will work quickly to get it working in the program.

I am waiting for the Qualified Health Insurance Premiums Worksheet to be uploaded. Which makes no sense because Missouri has been accepting 1040s since January 24, 2022. Once again this year I suspect it is a software glitch similar to last years with not being able to efile because the AGI of the previous year was not accepted. In looking at the documents I saved the Qualified Health Insurance Premiums Worksheet is included.

Will wait a couple of days then print and send in like I did with last years.

The "Qualified Health Insurance Premium" worksheet is not yet available in TurboTax. Please note that no tax processor rolls out forms for their product as soon as the state does because they have to go through several steps:

create a copy (both printed and electronic) of the form

get the copies approved by the state

write the software (or update last year's) to put data on the form

individually and comprehensively test the form and software

It does not matter that the state is accepting MO-1040s; what matters is that all the forms in your return are available in the TurboTax product - this one happens to be unavailable at the moment.

Honestly, the IRS is very backed up on paper returns at the moment with some 6 million returns from last year still not processed. I would recommend that you wait and e-file instead of printing and mailing your 2021 return. Even if you can't e-file until March 3rd, you are very likely to get your refund much more quickly this way.

This Missouri form is scheduled to be made available on March 3, 2022, although that can change. Please follow the availability of this form and all state forms at this link: State Forms Availability.

If it is not yet available why is it there when I downloaded a copy of my federal? When you download everything including the unfiled state is downloaded. Is very strange that something not available at the state site and with a copy of it in the saved documents that you are telling me that it is not available.

TurboTax apparently has a problem then with filing any and all Missouri 1040s because it is required for most of them. Perhaps someone/s should be assigned to do this.

I apparently have an error on the public pension and SSA calculations. I have gone through the forms in the Missouri instruction book by hand and come up with Turbo Tax's numbers, meaning I can't figure out why Missouri says I owe them some more money. Of course, Missouri didn't send their detailed calculations. Anyone else have this problem? Turbo Tax appears to be overcalculating the exemption somehow by $144. It's a drib of additional money but if Turbo Tax's calculations are incorrect, then it could be wrong every year and that would be a problem.
