I tried entering the deduction in the 'Out of State Tax Credit Summary' but because Washington has no income tax, Missouri appears to not count this and taxes all my Washington income too. It just takes the values from my federal return and taxes all of it.

You should not be claiming the Out of State Tax Credit, in your situation (part year resident). You just need to allocate your income as MO or non MO income.

Try this: at the W-2 screen, in the federal section, for your W-2 from working in WA, put WA in box 15 and the box 1 amount in box 16. This should help TurboTax allocate you WA wages as non MO income.

Your Missouri tax return begins with your federal adjusted gross income, as reported on your federal return. It then applies all allowable deductions and computes the tax on all of your income. The tax is then reduced by either the Missouri resident credit (Form MO-CR) or (as in your case) the Missouri income percentage (Form MO-NRI). The result for part-year residents is a prorated income tax based only on the income earned while a Missouri resident.

...AND...MO is one a few states where part-year residents of MO are supposed to, & allowed to file either as:

1) Full year residents, taxing ALL yearly income, but taking a credit for the taxes paid to the "other" state

or as

2) Full year non-residents, where you allocate what income you got after moving to MO.

Make sure you are using the Non-Resident route...#2.

(not sure how the software asks you which way to use, but it should be at the very beginning of the MO Q&A)
