Cannot get rid of Schdule E from State Taxes (AL)

For some reason, Turbotax seems to think I need an empty Schedule E on my state taxes even though I have no rental property. If I go to forms view and delete it, it comes right back. I've been through every form and can't find anything that would seem to trigger this behavior.

I really want to get around this. TT won't let me file since it thinks I have Schedule E for Alabama and that form is not final / not approved for E-File.

If there was an entry made on the federal tax return it will continue to flow to the State tax return. You may have inadvertently added or started an entry for Rental income. I advise you to go back to the rentals section on the federal side and see if there is something entered for rental income. If you see an entry started, delete it and then go to the State Taxes and got to the review section to see if that removed it.

To get to the Rentals section:

Open or continue your return, if you haven’t already
Locate the Search bar in the upper right of your screen. Search for rentals and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results

When I go to rentals, there is nothing there which I would expect. Just the screen to say yes/no if I have any.

It is possible you have an entry on a schedule K-1 reporting rental income. If so, it would flow to page two of schedule E. To delete the schedule E, you would need to first delete the K-1 schedule.

You can look on schedule 1 of form 1040, line 5, to see if there is any rental income being reported on your tax return.

You can view your form 1040 and schedules 1 to 3 while working in the online version of TurboTax by following these steps:

Click on Tax Tools in the left menu bar
Click on Tools
Look under Other Helpful links….
Choose View Tax Summary
Look in the left menu bar and choose Preview my 1040
Scroll down the page to see form 1040 and schedules 1 to 3

No K-1 either. The only forms on my federal taxes are 1040 and schedule D. It's pretty basic.

Is this some sort of software bug?

As long as your Schedule E for your AL return is completely blank, it is available for e-file as of today. You can see Forms availability table for TurboTax individual (personal) tax products to review.

Thank you. I went and checked the link you provided and it says AL schedule E is not available until 2/23?

As as now, TT will not let me either E-File or print my state return.
