I live in New York and have W2 for NY and PA. How do I file my taxes for 2022 correctly? I believe NY will give me a credit for taxes I pay to the non-resident state, so that I am not double-taxed. FYI, my W2 for non-resident state indicates on Box 15 State Employer's State ID is 'NY', what does this mean?

Please elaborate... Many thanks in advance!

You are correct. If you live in New York and work in New York and Pennsylvania, then you would file a resident NY return and a nonresident PA return.

NY will give you credit for tax paid to PA. Pennsylvania’s tax rate is generally lower, so it won’t be 100%.

I don’t understand what you mean by “my W2 for non-resident state indicates on Box 15 State Employer’s State ID is NY.” That sounds like your employer only withheld NY tax and did not split out wages.

You are still required to file PA tax if you worked in PA. You’ll just have to allocate PA income by yourself.

Hi! So my W2 for PA should be taxable as New York Income? And I am using TurboTax Deluxe 2022, is there anything I need to do for this? Both are remote work in NY and PA, if this helps.

If you lived in New York but worked remotely in Pennsylvania, then you don't have to pay tax or file a return in Pennsylvania. I believe that is why your W-2 from Pennsylvania is reporting your income having been earned in New York. You would only need to pay tax in Pennsylvania if you were physically there while performing services.
