state download freezes my turbotax 2021 (mac version) and it is NOT downloaded

I have turbotax home & business 2021, when I click on the "download" button for my state (NJ), it freezes turbotax and I need to force quit the application everytime. I have tried it for several days now and no state was downloaded, I need a fix asap!

I know a solution (sort of) was provided for the 2020 product but I presume this problem should have been fixed by now. Please note that I am using a Mac, the 2020 solution was for windows.

No, the discussion thread you provided is not helping. I have already gone through the thread. It was for turbotax 2020, and it is for Windows machine. The EXE file is to be run on a windows operating system. I need a solution for turbotax 2021, and for Mac OS.

Update to my problem of not being able to download state. I ended up un-installing turbotax 2021 according to a post in the turbotax community of how to completely remove turbotax which involves manually deleting a lot of folders. I then reinstall turbotax and i am able to download state without problem.

I found my own solution: I put the 2021 Turbotax file that had all my federal work on it in the trash (DO NOT EMPTY TRASH). Then I opened Turbotax, a generic new file pops up. I went to state tab, selected work on state, selected download state, selected my state to download, and downloaded it. Then I closed Turbotax, restored my file from the trash, reopened TurboTax, my original file opened up and state was already downloaded. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone, uninstalled and deleted allllll those folders and files- everything they told me to uninstall and delete. Still didn't work. This was after waiting on hold and getting disconnected. So I hope this helps someone!

I used the "StoreYourFile in the Trash" method. Really Scary, But it WORKS!! Come on TurboTax, you have to fix this kind of issue!!

I am SO glad I posted here. I had the same issue for 2022 and instead of investing hours on the phone, I just looked at my past history here. I just dropped the 2022 file in the trash, reopened TurboTax, and downloaded the state. Then I put back my 2022 tax file from the trash and opened it up with state available. Wish TT would fix it.
