1st time filing jointly. In section "Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns". Last year, my spouse & I received a refund from the state of Massachusetts which is taxable this year if you itemized last year. However, I Itemized deductions but she took the Standard deduction. Turbo tax is carrying the 2 refunds for tax this year. Is this correct?

.

were you married in 2020? if so if one of you used itemized deductions both should have used itemized deductions or you both must use the standard deduction. this will require one of you to amend.

if you weren't married at the end of 2020, don't enter her state refund.

No. Do not add both state tax refunds to your tax return for 2021. Since your spouse did not use itemized deductions last year then you would not add that state tax refund to your return for this year. Enter only the state tax refund that was used for itemized deductions on the 2020 tax return.
