Cannot Start State Tax Returns? Bug?

So I go to start my State return filing for the state of Oregon and I select Oregon as the free state that I am filing in. However now that I have selected it, when I go to start the states taxes I get this information stating that I need to update. It goes and updates to find that the software is up to the latest date. Anytime I select the Start button it repeats this process and does not allow me to start my state taxes. Is this a bug since OR moved it's filing date?

I am having the same issue with the state of Arizona. I hope someone can help us with this issue. I am connected to the internet with direct cable connection and not wireless and it still did not work.

Can someone from Intuit send me a link for the Arizona state form please? Thanks!!

You should be able to use this as a work around:

Click on the white Forms icon toward the upper right corner.
Select Open Forms, toward the upper left corner.
Search for Form 140, under Arizona Tax Return.
Open the form by highlighting it, and then selecting Open Form in the lower right corner of the pop-up box.
Select Step-by-Step in the upper right corner.
You should be able to click Edit to the right of Arizona and start your state return.

This method will work with other states, as long as you downloaded the state you need first.

Hi Julie,

So I tried your method by going to forms, I searched for Form 140 but could only find this identity theft affidavit form in my search. I assumed that Form 140 is for Arizona, so I looked up the State of Oregon and searched for Form 40 and still could not find anything. I selected the previous form (just to see what would happen) then proceeded to the step-by-step option. When I arrived the state section did not have any edit feature. I am not sure is there another work around, or if this gives you more insight into the problem but I open to hear further suggestions.

Hi. Yes it is an old thread but exact same issue.

So I hit ok then I hit Start so I can start my state taxes and it gives me the same message about downloading the file..Software is up to date and I hit ok. It is like Groundhogs day...same thing over and over and I cannot get my state taxes done. I have the TurboTax Deluxe CD and I used InstallTurboTax.com to install it with a license code. I did see this same issue reported on the 2021 comments as well so it is not only me

Hi. This is what is on the thread I replied to. And yes this is exactly what I am looking for but as you can see the link for the zip file is for 2020 tax year. I need the fix for 2021. Is there one created?

Hello. Any update on this issue? Or do I need to switch to a different software? The online version works but I do not want to pay the extra money plus I have several returns to prepare which is why I buy the desktop version

No updates yet but that would not be unusual since this was only reported this weekend and there is only limited staffing at TurboTax during the weekends.

After two weeks, is there any solution? I do believe this is common issue. It was report from 2020, and turns out that Turbotax keeps has the same bug without being solved.

Yes there is a fix. Call support and ask to speak to a Supervisor. They are the only ones that have the fix for 2021. It must be a Supervisor

I called CSR this morning, and the answer is funny enough. CSR told me that TN tax return form is not ready yet, and it is the reason I got into the endless update loop. The planned updated schedule is the end of Feb. and I will try it again in 03/01, if it still does not work. I will update here. So far, I am not happy with that.

Tennessee does not have a personal income tax so there is no Tennessee state tax program to download.

The Hall Tax for TN was repealed effective for tax year 2021 and all future tax years so there is no more requirement to report interest or dividend income on a TN tax return.

Yes I was told the same thing. You can go through the motions on TurboTax online and it will work I am pretty sure. After I knew that then I deleted it and asked to speak to a supervisor. Once with the supervisor it took less than 10 min to fix
