Amended return for 2018. I have completed the data, but TurboTax won't let me file it (it says federal return already filed).

You did not amend the tax return. You added the 1099-R to your original return and the return cannot be e-filed again. Remove your changes and wait for the the federal amended tax return, Form 1040X, to be available and wait for the tax refund to be issued before amending. Amended tax returns can only be printed, signed, dated and mailed to the IRS by you, they cannot be e-filed.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know how ~I~will~know~ when the Form 1040X will be available? Will TurboTax send out a notification? Do I just keep periodically trying to create an amended return? TIA.
