Received a letter (LTR 12C) from IRS asking for certain pages of a 1040SR form, amounts and date of all estimated tax payments, supporting documents verifying income and withholding and a copy of the letter. They said I could mail, fax or upload through IRS..

I have all of the documents ready to send but am unable to create a irs.gov account. The address they have listed looks bogus. It is STOP 6120, Kansas City, MO 64999.

Wondering why they do not have this information already as I efiled with Turbo Tax 2/7/26.

can you help me with what I should do?

Thank you.

Toni Goeke

The IRS address in Kansas City (Zip Code 64999) is a legitimate processing center, and receiving Letter 12C is just a request for manual verification of details your e-file couldn't automatically confirm, often due to a mismatch in reported withholding or estimated tax payments as compared to what they expected.

To resolve this, you should send the requested documents, including the IRS letter to one of the methods provided. If you prefer to mail them to the Missouri address, I suggest you use Certified Mail with a Return Receipt for your records, as this provides legal proof of delivery while you wait for the IRS to finish processing your 2025 return. Faxing, however, will be cheaper and provide you with an instant proof of submission.

The IRS has announced that they are backlogged on correspondence. The notice you received was most likely computer-driven. Your response will be processed by an agent who handles thousands of returns. You may not receive a response for several months.

So the IRS can keep our refund money as long as they want? Have never had any issue until this year and never had so many problems using TurboTax as I did this year. Have people received their refunds or did I just lose almost 5k? I pay estimated taxes but maybe need to stop doing that if they aren’t refunding overpayment. Any idea if this will happen again and if so how to prevent it? Maybe I should just mail returns instead of efile so I know they receive all the correct paperwork.
