TurboTax required me to provide bank information for Direct Payment of my tax to the IRS, including the amount of payment and the payment date in order to e-file my return. I have no verification from the IRS that the acceptance of my e-filed return constitutes an arrangement for direct payment. How do I obtain such verification?

TurboTax did not require you to to use direct debit to pay your federal tax; that was a choice you made, instead of saying you would mail a check or money order or instead of paying directly on the IRS payment site.

Your proof that you paid your tax due will be your own bank or credit card statement when the IRS pulls out the payment. TurboTax gets no information from the IRS after you file your return; TT will never know if your payment went through.

Of course if the IRS pulls the money on the correct date there is no issue. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. What happens if they don't and penalize me for late payment? Where is my proof that I properly arranged a Direct Pay? I certainly won't have a confirmation from the IRS.

You can see the document to prove that you set up a payment when you filed your return. To see this, follow these instructions:

Open your return.

On the Tax Home screen, scroll to Your tax returns and documents and choose Add a State. This'll take you to the right place to find your tax forms and worksheets.

In the menu, select Tax Tools, then Print Center.

On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save, or preview this year’s return.

On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, choose 2025 Federal return and Include government and TurboTax worksheets. Then, choose View or print forms.

The information will be on the first page, Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2024 Federal Tax Return, next to Balance Due/Refund.

@joanbjay37
