Hi Kristina:

FYI. I just amended 2024 return and the efiles were accepted in TT system. However, TT states that I have to print out the required documents and mail to the government. Unfortunately, the Print Forms for the required forms on that statement does not work. So I googled what needed to mail to IRS and print out manually the amended documents and mailed to IRS.

I e-filed my amended federal and California tax returns for 2024 using TurboTax. According to Turbotax , both the federal and California return show as "accepted” now. My original returns were e-filed via Turbotax.

I would like to if I still need to mail paper copies if accepted, or is e-filing sufficient? I want to avoid duplicate filings. Please advise or request additional details if needed.

If you e-filed, you do not need to mail the return. As long as it shows it was accepted, there is nothing more for you to do.

But TurboTax prompted me to mail despite showing accepted. I am afraid that mailing paper copies could risk duplicate filings.

What was the exact wording TurboTax used to prompt you to mail it? Is it the form or documents that you changed?

When you go on the IRS and CA sites, does it show that the AMENDED return has been accepted? If it does, then you would not mail the amended forms. But it is possible depending on what you changed or added that you need to mail in supporting documentation.

The wording is quite simple. Something like 'please save, print, and mail the return to the IRS'. I only amended two additional 1099-R forms, no other changes.

If you e-filed your amended federal and state tax returns, then there is no need to print and mail them again. You can keep track of the amended federal tax return here.

I'm a bit confused. If you efiled your amendment you do not want to also mail your amendment. Can you clarify your situation? You can check the status of an amended return on the IRS Where's My Amended Return site, if that is helpful.
