The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/25/2026

You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return.
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.

Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

The amendment form 1040X will only be available in TurboTax after 2/25/2026.

If you are expecting a refund, we recommend that you wait to amend until after the IRS has processed your original return and you have received your refund.

I've been waiting for February 25th to arrive so that I can file my amended return. The website still says the functionality is not yet available. What is the updated estimate of when I can file my amended 2025 return?

Not until the IRS updates the Form 1040-X instructions for tax year 2025 can TurboTax provide a 2025 Form 1040-X.

I was able to use tool n start process but this is ridiculous it dong let u submit until 3/4/26 to efile says not ready still smh never again will I use turbo tax

This is now the 3rd 'estimated' date that has come and gone and it's still not available. I literally just need to amend ONE QUESTION on a dependent's $0 return so I can file my own as HOH. Is this realistically going to be available before tax day passes?

Yes, it will. You won't be able to file an amendment until your tax return is fully processed and you receive your refund or your balance due is deducted from your account. In addition, the 1040X used to amend your tax return isn’t available yet but should be ready by the end of next week.

Once you file your amendment, you can check the status of your amended tax return at Where’s My Amended Return?

Never again will I use TurboTax.

The amount of times I’ve called and was given different responses by different agents. I need to remove a dependent so the other person is waiting on me to amend and I am waiting on TurboTax to allow me access to the tools. I’ve been given so many different dates after paying to expedite the refund (which was already deposited and updated on the IRS website and TurboTax since mid February) I still have to wait. February 25th came and went…the access is still nonexistent. The last rep on the phone said TurboTax tells their ppl a certain date to calm them down, but it usually delays and is never accurate. Thanks for the confirmation never to use this service again.

Why so mad over something they can’t control?

I am in the same boat as everyone here, I need to file an amended return for the first time in my life.

That said, WAIT. They can’t make it available before the IRS makes it available. They have no control the date it is released. They can only report what the IRS website is showing.

I updated my TT 2025, clicked on "Amend a Filed Return" for my federal return. I already know it's been accepted by the IRS since last week. According to the support page, when you do that the tax refund amount is supposed to go to $0, but mine doesn't. After I added a couple of extra 1099 forms, the tax owed updated as expected but on top of the previous owed amount*. Also the forms view doesn't show the 1040-X. I think this isn't working yet.

* I e-Filed with payment to IRS on 4/1/26, not immediately.

First, you need to wait until the initial return is completely processed. The amended section of the software will not be updated until the expected date of March 4.

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.

You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. 
The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected.
You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

Is my issue that since I put my deduction date at 4/1/2026, I have to wait until then until I file an amended return? Meaning if I'd had immediately paid my owed to IRS amount, I'd be able to e-FIle the 1040X on March 4th?
