Historically, they've been accepted within a day, and it's now the 2nd business day (4th calendar day) since I filed.

The IRS guideline is that refunds are issued within 21 days, provided they are

Electronically filed
With Direct deposit,
And provided there are no other issues.

To check your tax refund status in TurboTax,

Sign in to your account and
Go to the "Tax Home" or "Order Details" screen
It will tell you if your return was accepted.

If you want to know the status of your tax return, you should use the IRS Where’s My Refund website.

You'll need

Your Social Security or individual taxpayer ID number (ITIN)
Your filing status
The exact refund amount on your return

This did not answer the question at all. You just pasted in the standard text about how long to get a REFUND after it's been accepted. I asked how long does it take for your return to be ACCEPTED usually.

@lori-i-drum Received and Accepted are the same thing.

The IRS has these stats on their website - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

When to expect your refund

Processing your refund usually takes:

Up to 21 days for an e-filed return
6 weeks or more for returns sent by mail
Longer if your return needs corrections or extra review

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

I fully understand all that. I'm being as clear as I can. How long does it take from when I push the "file my taxes" button in TurboTax until they are ACCEPTED or RECEIVED? I'm not asking about anything that happens after it's accepted or received. I don't care how long it takes for processing or how long it takes to get the refund. How long does electronic submission and receipt/acceptance happen? This is the question.

@lori-i-drum Normally it can take from a few hours to over 72 hours after e-filing before the tax return is received by the IRS. However, a few returns may take longer and the why is only known to the IRS.
