The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/19/2026

You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return.
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.

Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

Use this tool to check availability of forms, including 1040X: Tax form availability. Currently it is projected to be available 2/25/26, but the tool will be updated with any changes.

Amended returns may include any other forms that may be used to file an original return. Because several forms have had delays in their release dates, the amended forms needed to be pushed back to allow those updates to be completed.

Note that amended returns take months to be processed by the IRS, since they are handled manually. There is no rush to file a 1040-X, as you have three years to file an amended return.

TurboTax is not pushing the date back. The IRS has not released the form due to tax law updates related to the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB.) This is a normal process of the 1040-X form every tax season. Sometimes the IRS is just not ready for a form to be used yet.

I already received my refund but found a mistake and now owe the Government, I understand that I have to pay that within 21 days of receipt of the refund or I will be charged interest.

Not until the IRS updates the Form 1040-X instructions for tax year 2025 can TurboTax provide a 2025 Form 1040-X.

You stated that we can amend our 2025 Taxes by February 25th or 26th. I just checked and tried to amend, and it is still not available. Can you please advise on when this feature is going to be available?

The amended Form 1040-X is available and ready for you. Do not change your tax return until you read all the instructions. TurboTax needs to know the original numbers and the corrected numbers to provide the correct end results before you prepare it.

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.

You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected.
You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment
