Hold on----when you look at your online TT account is it saying "Ready to mail"? If it says that, your return has not been e-filed. You have to go all the way through the FILE section to a big orange button that says "Transmit my returns now" in order to e-file. If you did not do that, then the return you prepared is just sitting there--going nowhere.

If you are seeing something on the IRS refund site about mailing your refund, that is a different story, and only the IRS can explain why they are mailing a check instead of making a direct deposit.

Please clarify where you are seeing verbiage about mailing something.

Did me the same way even got an advance that went to my account but had a paper check mailed out as well. Ftb said I chose that option,,,NEVER

@Maino1 Only FTB can explain to you why they mailed a check instead of making a direct deposit if you chose DD. The good news is that you received your refund even if it was a check.

If the IRS is mailing your refund check instead of using direct deposit, it's most likely because the attempt to deposit the refund into the bank account provided on the tax return was rejected by your bank.

Your first step should be to call the IRS to inquire about the reason for the paper check. You should also call your bank to confirm if the IRS attempted a direct deposit, if it was rejected, and the reason for the rejection. Another possibility is that the IRS is manually reviewing your tax return.

The IRS does not share any direct deposit information with TurboTax.

On the IRS site if states, My refund will be mailed by 2/27/26. If I don't hear from them by 3/27/26. Call them.

I had just the opposite. I chose for the check to be mailed and I received a letter from the irs that the check could not be deposited and i have to update my account numbers

will the check eventually arrive?

That sounds strange.

Don't do anything without confirming the source.
The check would have gone directly to you. The IRS wouldn't send a check to the bank.
If you put in for a direct deposit, and the bank refused it. The IRS will mail the check to you at the address listed on your tax return.
Contact the IRS so you can understand what is going on.
