Today, I got a 4883c letter from the IRS, dated 10/09/25, via USPS, requesting a call back to verify my identity and tax return info. Is it a legitimate letter? It has a "control number"...

It is requesting I call an 800 number I wasn't able to find on the IRS website [phone number removed]).

Why? I entered an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) I received from the IRS on my 2024 1040 Tax Form when I e-filed...

I HAVE TO VERIFY MY IDENTITY

Sometimes the IRS chooses returns randomly to request verification of identity and sometimes there is something on the return that triggers the request. No matter why the IRS has required you to verify your identity, you need to follow their instructions in order to receive your refund. If you do not verify your identity you will not get your refund.
