If your family member can be claimed as someone else's dependent then she cannot get education credits. If her original return claimed the AOTC then it will have to be repaid to the IRS. Only the person who can claim her as a dependent can use the education credit.

Hi,

I reported my sister's 1098-T in her 2023 return, and I am working on amending it to change her status to dependent. Am I required to keep the details the same concerning reporting her 1098-T? Would it legally be an issue if I remove her 1098-T info entirely in the amended form?
