Your refund could be offset.

The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts.  You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.

The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.

We were expecting a federal tax refund of $3271.00 but only received $1774.00 which was directly deposited to our bank account. We have not received any notification of why the refund was decreased. The phone number on our file return copy that is given for change of refund questions is no longer valid. Can Turbotax help us determine what the issue is?
