I filed my refund early, around the 3rd or 2nd of February. This is only my second time filing my taxes. My estimated return date was yesterday so I went on today to check. According to turbo taxes AI I have received my $0 refund, but it still says I should have gotten $171 on the home page where you track you return. I do not have any fines or anything that could have been deducted. The only two reasons I can find that this would have happened is the following.

1. My W2 seemed strange this year, I paid no federal taxes according to my W2, but I didn't receive an amended version. I thought that my refund seemed a bit high, but I worked more this year than last year.

2. When I go to check my summary is shows my routing number and account number as a bunch of Xs. I did enter my correct banking information, and it seemed fine when I filed it, but according to the file section of Turbo tax, my banking information is all just a bunch of Xs. I don't know if this is to protect my information? But it has my social security number on there, so I doubt it.

I cannot figure out how to amend any of the information, I ran out of attempts to check my return on the IRS's website, and I didn't pay for and cant pay for a turbo tax expert so I can speak to an actual person. Who do I contact about this? How do I contact them? If the issue was with my W2 how do I get an amended one? And if the issue was with my routing number do I contact my bank or the IRS?

Im honestly so stressed about this right now, I do not want to accidently commit tax fraud, even though I know that's not really on the table.

Look at your Form 1040. Find your refund on line 35a.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/preview-turbotax-online-return-filing/L77WCkvnu_US_en_US?uid=m681fkhr

Use that amount to track your refund on the IRS refund site.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

If you have questions about your W-2 and you think it may have been incorrect, you should address this with your employer and get a corrected Form W-2. If you receive a corrected W-2 that affects your income tax due, you will have to file an amended your taxes to reflect the changes.

The X's that you see for your bank routing and account information are there to protect your routing and account information. The numbers that you entered were transmitted to the government when your tax return was processed.

If the IRS has adjusted your refund from $171 to $0, due to an error on your tax return, you will get a notice from the IRS explaining why.

Click here for "Why is my refund lower than the amount shown in TurboTax?"

Click here for "Do I Need To Amend?"

You can use this IRS tool to determine if you should amend your tax return, click here and select "Begin" to enter your information. It will ask you questions about your issue.

Come back to TurboTax Community with any additional information or questions you may have and we will be glad to help you
