topic 2024 Tax Amendment Help in After you file

So I originally filed my joint return using my wife’s last check stub which was a horrible mistake and came to

find out she didn’t pay any fed tax, so which made me have to amend our taxes. The original refund amount was $7,445 (which has been accepted but is on hold due to EIC and income verification) which I get because of the mistake. Now it says I owe $859 but it shows on my 1040 a overpayment and credit $6,586 for EITC? So will i get the original $7,445 and then have to pay the IRS $859 or i won’t get anything but have to pay $859. A little confused here being this is my first amended return so any help would be amazing. Thanks in advance!

The amended return is taking into account the refund from the original return. So you should get that refund and then submit the amended return with your payment. It's all right to wait for the refund, as long as you get it before April 15th and you repay the balance due by that date as well.

You have some time, I would advise to wait for the refund. You can hold the amendment and pay the $859, after your get the refund,

awesome! Well

the it’s sent me a notice holding my return for 60 days on Feb. 11 due to income verification which is probably from the wrong info i put in, so i amended my return this morning being that i’m still gonna have to wait the 60 days anyway. I just wanted to be sure that i was at least receiving the $6586.
