There isn't anything you (or TurboTax) can do once it's been filed and Accepted by the IRS. What will happen is the bank will reject the deposit and the IRS will send you a paper check to the address on your tax return.

You could try to contact the IRS and state taxing authorities to see if they can stop it, but that likely won't help. I'll post the contact information below if you want to give it a try.

I’m so freaked out that this is going to happen to our current returns.... at which bank did you have to deal with this issue? And what has been your solution? I just realized tonight that I accidentally issued our refund to our old account number instead of the new one.. my stomach is just in turmoil thinking about it. So I would love and appreciate any help I could get on the situation.

This just happened to me because I used my cashapp for my tax return, and 2 weeks after I filed, cashapp CHANGED MY ACCOUNT INFO without my authorization and do not even have real agents you can speak to . Did you ever get resolution, or did u have to wait for the irs to mail you a paper check 10 weeks out?

It could take several weeks before you receive a mailed refund check.

@Ncfrogg If the information you provided is for an invalid account, or if their bank rejects your direct deposit, the IRS will mail you a check as explained in the link below. Allow up to 14 business days, excluding holidays, once the IRS mails your refund check to receive it.

My bank closed my account before I got my return. The bank said they had it now they said they returned it back. I've been trying to get a hold of the Irs but no luck. Any news on your end?

Banking information for direct deposit is wrong

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.

After the bank rejected the direct deposit it is returned to the IRS. The IRS will then issue a refund check to be mailed to the address on the tax return. The check usually arrives within two to three weeks after the IRS receives the returned refund.

The same thing just happened to me. Some kind of way I used a closed account and had a DD of Feb 26. So the bank rejected it and sent it back and now I have another date for my return to be mailed on March 6!! Hopes this helps 🤞
