TurboTax needs a form of payment in case things go wrong and the IRS seizes or reduces your refund after you file. Or if your refund is delayed. They want to get paid.

Please make note that if your refund takes too long to arrive (IRS delays, etc.) then you will also be agreeing that the TurboTax fees can be extracted from your bank account even before your refund is issued by the IRS. This comes as an unpleasant shock to many people every year.

Sometimes, the return contains errors, resulting in a smaller or non-existent refund. At other times, there are IRS processing delays. Turbotax protects itself from being stiffed by having an alternative funding source.
