Yes. If you have checked the accuracy, go ahead and mail it, be sure to use tracking. Federal and state returns should be mailed separately.

Warning:

Since the federal government and many states are busy changing all of their software retroactive to 2019, most places are not ready to accept an amended return. Be sure your federal is taking off $500 per situation and either adding it to your standard deduction or increasing your itemized deductions.

The 2024 amended availability date is all we have access to, see forms availability here.

I have a $5000 unreimbursed loss from hurricane Ian, which has been issued a FEMA disaster declaration number, hurricane Ian occurred in September 2022.

nothing was entered on my 2022 and 2023 tax returns concerning this unreimbursed loss.

Based on the recent disaster, recovery, relief, act I can now apply for a refund without regard for the 10% AGI limit and whether or not you itemized your deductions…

do I have to do this as an amended 2022 tax return or can this be done on my 2024 tax return

You would have to amend the return for the year of the loss or the year previous to that as per this from IRS Publication 547:

It lets me go through the entire E- File process then at the end tells

me the signature date (signed 02/12/2025) has to be in 2023....I have filed no other amended returns

Must I print and mail this amended return??
