Turbo Tax for 2024 ?

Getting ready for TT 2024... I used to:

1. Run down to my local office supply store.

2. Pick up the TT package for my need. Pay, and leave.

3. This TT packet/package was contained on diskette.

4. I loaded/installed the diskette, probably performed some initialization(s).

5. I was off and running. Began return creation, and finished with electronic

transfer of completed return.

6. Started over again next year.

Well, "next year" is here, but several of those steps no longer seem to be supported.

Can you give me a some clues on how this seems to have changed?

All of the tax software companies have eliminated CD's this year---many new computers do not have disk drives. They are offering downloads instead. When you used the CD in past years you still had to download updates and download state programs, so it is not wildly different.

You can purchase the download and when you have your license key, if you really really want a plastic CD you can order one for $10.

You can also purchase the desktop download from various retailers such as Costco, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, Sam’s Club, etc. etc. etc.

Sorry, no more CDs. You can now buy an install CD for $10 after you buy a License Code for the version you want. You can also burn the installation file to a CD or save to a usb flash drive.

But since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac). And the download will always be up to date with all the updates.

I buy mine at Costco. Now I buy from Costco Online. They usually have a sale price in January and Costco (and some other big box stores) have a $10 rebate that will apply to any extra fee you need to pay like the state efile fee or if you need to buy another state program.

Thank you, very much for your assistance, and direction.

I guess using the term "Diskette" was a little dated, considering true
diskettes, as in "floppy diskettes", haven't been used for decades.

However, within two feet of where I'm sitting, I can see a "2023
Turbo Tax" distribution media, supplied on "CD".

And, in consideration, the term "CD" is almost as historical.

I guess I thought that the term "Diskette" might expose me to more
sympathy. As if I was sitting on a street corner, waving a "will work
for Turbo Tax diskette", sign. <G>

Rather than signage stating "will work for Turbo Tax ram stick,
thumb drive, or even, distribution placard containing an activation
code". Either, will satisfy my needs.

But, thanks to Y'all, I now have the information desperately needed.
